Goldilocks and The Three Bears

Yakalo Collective is an organization that aims to help diaspora communities in San Francisco Bay Area with “maintaining the ecological intimacy inherent in their cultural heritage.” To reach this goal, Yakalo Collective “increases public understanding of, and communication about, different cultures and languages of human-animal-land relationships within and beyond the United States of America” (from https://yakaloco.neocities.org/). This project aims to demonstrate the importance of the environment on language. My partner and I are born in Korea but have lived abroad in an English-speaking environment for most of our lives. Therefore, our environment has made us naturally speak a mixture of Korean and English in our daily lives. Therefore, for this CPO project, my partner and I chose to demonstrate intersectional language by depicting a children's story called “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” using Korean and English, which is helpful to many Korean Americans who might find this version of the story easier to understand. Moreover, we will further demonstrate the environment’s impact on our language by putting background music as we narrate the story, which can change the way we speak.
